A man who escaped from the Columbia River Correctional Institution wasn't free for long. Wednesday night, a corrections officer, who was transporting a person, saw Matthew Medlin on North Columbia Boulevard near I-5.
North Precinct officers responded to the area and located Medlin at the Jack in the Box restaurant, located at Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. and Columbia Boulevards. Medlin was initially non-compliant with commands to get on the ground but after numerous officers arrived, including a Canine Unit, Medlin surrendered without incident.
Medlin was hospitalized for cuts likely caused by razor wire at the top of the prison's fence.
He was going to be released from prison on May 6th. He'll now face additional charges.
