Texas Attorney general Ken Paxton is carrying through on a promise he made to go after businesses that price gouged following Hurricane Harvey. Paxton filed lawsuits against three Texas businesses today, one in Robstown, accusing them of unlawful price gouging while consumers were in need of fuel, shelter and other essentials.
Paxton said: "It's unconscionable that any business would take advantage of Texans at their most vulnerable - those who are displaced from their homes, have limited resources, and are in desperate need of fuel, shelter and the basic necessities of life."Texas law prohibits vendors from charging excessive prices for necessities such as drinking water, food, clothing, and fuel during a declared disaster.
