Layman Blocks The Suns

----- Jake Layman scores 24 points as the Portland Trail Blazers end their three-game losing streak with a 108-86 win over the Phoenix Suns Thursday night at Moda Center.

The Phoenix Suns are just what the Doctor ordered for the struggling Portland Trail Blazers. Phoenix arrived in Portland with the worst record in the NBA (4-20) and the Blazers took advantage of the opportunity.

Jake Layman scored 15 of his career-high 24 points in the first quarter as the Trail Blazers raced to a commanding 34-9 lead and cruised the rest of the way.

''I just went out there and tried to be aggressive, play within our offense and not do anything too crazy,'' Layman said. ''I was getting open shots. Damian (Lillard) was finding me, other guys were finding me.''

Damian Lillard scored a game-high 25 points in just under 28 minutes and added eight assists and five rebounds. The Blazers connected on 48.2% of their shots from the field and dominated the glass with a 56-41 edge in rebounds.

“I liked the way we played,” Coach Terry Stotts said. “We’ve got a tough game Saturday; we’ve got a tough stretch of games, period, coming up. From a confidence standpoint, I thought it was good for us.”

The Blazers were without CJ McCollum tonight due to a sprained left ankle. He suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the team's 111-102 loss Tuesday night in Dallas. Seth Curry replaced McCollum in the starting lineup.

Phoenix (4-21) shot just 38.5% from the field including just 5-for-27 from three-point range. Troy Daniels led the Suns in scoring with 15 points off the bench.

Up Next- The Trail Blazers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves Saturday night at Moda Center. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 PM.

Chad's Take- Terry Stotts should find more minutes Layman and less for Harkless.
