Man Attacks Fire Station Window With Ax

Police responded to a fire station in Southeast Portland where a man was attacking a window with an ax.

East Precinct officers responded to Portland Fire Station 19, located at 7301 East Burnside Street, on the report of a subject breaking windows with an ax. Officers obtained a description of the suspect. When officers arrived at the fire station, they saw an adult male pacing in front of the location with something in his hands. A community member reported the man was armed with a knife and a hatchet. The male ran from the officers, but gave up and was safely taken into custody. A knife and an ax were seized as evidence.

There was one window damaged at the fire station, but no one was injured during this incident. Preliminary information suggests the involved male may have been under the influence of an unknown substance.

The male involved was identified as 30-year-old Joseph Coffin. Coffin was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail for Criminal Mischief 2.
