‘Not quite a blacklist, but a graylist’: Andrew Klavan on conservative Christians in Hollywood

Andrew Klavan joined Glenn Beck in the studio today to discuss, among other topics, what it’s like to be a conservative Christian in today’s stolidly liberal Hollywood.

“It’s virtually impossible,” explained Klavan. “I mean, it got harder and harder and harder, the more I ‘came out’, the more difficult it got, the more I’d get people talking to me because they like my work — and then balking because they saw who I was. It’s very difficult … you know, it’s funny, it is a ‘graylist.’ There’s no question about it, it’s not quite a blacklist, but it is a graylist. It makes it so much harder — and it’s so hard already.”

Glenn wondered how the Hollywood set, many of whom have had to overcome their own struggles against some kind of discrimination or bias, fail to see that they are treating others the same way. “Is it vindictiveness? Is it blindness? What is it?” asked Glenn.

“Oh, I think it’s definitely blindness. They call it a bubble, but it really is an iron lung,” joked Klavan. “I mean, it’s an incredibly solid block.”

Andrew Klavan is the author of several internationally bestselling novels including True Crime, filmed by Clint Eastwood, Don’t Say A Word, and Empire of Lies. He hosts a popular conservative podcast and Youtube show on The Daily Wire and is known for his “political satire, cultural commentary, and relentless mockery of modern absurdities.”
