Flying Into The Eye Of Florence

Hurricane Florence is a Category 4 hurricane and NOAA scientists are flying into the storm to measure its strength.

The eye wall of the storm is about 45 miles wide which is similar to the distance from Portland to Salem.

The storm is currently forecast to come ashore in North Carolina as a Category 4 storm.

North Carolina, South Carolina and Viginia have declared States of Emergency.

The U.S. Navy is sending all ships at its largest base out to sea to avoid damage that could be caused by the storms. Nearly 30 ships were ordered to leave.

Mandatory evacuations are being ordered in low lying areas of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
