A motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed in the wrong lane crashed head-on into a vehicle heading in the opposite direction Wednesday evening, killing the motorcyclist and sending the driver of the other vehicle to the hospital.
Deputies responded to W. Kappler Rd. near Old Bunker Hill Rd. at 6:48 p.m. Wednesday upon receiving report of the crash. They arrived to find the motorcyclist, Brandon Brissett, 21, St. Helens, deceased from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the other vehicle, Tyson Singlestad, 20, St. Helens, was taken by ambulance to Emanuel Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators at the scene found evidence indicating the motorcycle was being driven at a very high rate of speed southbound in the northbound lane of W. Kappler Rd. when the motorcycle, a 2013 Suzuki crashed head on into Singlestad's 1996 Honda Civic as it was proceeding northbound in the northbound lane.
An Oregon State Police crash reconstructionist assisted deputies in this investigation. Columbia River Fire and Rescue also assisted after their emergency response to the scene. St. Helen's Police assisted with the notification of the next of kin for the deceased.
