Vancouver Police Tackles Auto Theft

posted by Brad Ford -

Thanks to a grant from the Washington Auto Theft Prevention Authority (WATPA), the Vancouver Police Department will distribute steering wheel locking devices during department-hosted events throughout the year as part of an auto theft prevention program.

The Vancouver Police Department will be holding two, simultaneous auto theft prevention events:

Date: Saturday, May 13, 2017

Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Locations: Kaiser Permanente Cascade Park (12607 SE Mill Plain Blvd. /West Parking

Lot)

AND

Vancouver Police West Precinct (2800 NE Stapleton Rd.)

While supplies last, vehicle anti-theft devices will be available for Vancouver community members at department-hosted events. Recipients must meet specific criteria. The Vancouver Police Department has a limited supply of steering wheel locking devices available for individuals who live or work within the city limits of Vancouver AND meet at least ONE of the following additional criteria:

* Recipients must be the registered owner of a 1990-2000 Honda, Toyota, or Subaru.

* Recipients have had their vehicle stolen at least once in the past 12 months AND have a

police report documenting the theft.

In order to obtain a steering wheel locking device at one of the events, recipients will need to have their photo ID, a vehicle registration showing ownership of one of the above-listed vehicles (address must match photo ID), and a police report for those that are a prior victim of auto theft.

Steering wheel locking devices act as a deterrent, when used properly and consistently, in combination with other auto theft prevention strategies. They provide high visual deterrence as well as an unauthorized use deterrent.
