COVID Vaccines For Younger Kids Could Get Authorized In October

Well, it turns out COVID-19 vaccines for children under 12 won't be available until after the new school season starts.

Both Pfizer and Moderna started younger kids in their clinical trials back in March, but Pfizer says any data about how it's working won't be available until around the end of September. It then usually takes the Food and Drug Administration a few weeks to review the data, so that would put the U.S. on track to start administering shots in October, at the very earliest...

But according to Moderna, they don't expect to seek emergency authorization for children under 12 until wintertime. And Johnson & Johnson is on an even slower timeline -- claiming their company won't start studying the vaccine in children until this fall.

Last month, the FDA asked both Pfizer and Moderna to expand their trials to include at least 3,000 children in the 5-to-11 age group.
