Matthew McConaughey Is Now A Professor At The University Of Texas

Austin FC Special Announcement Press Conference

Alright, alright, Professor Matthew McConaughey!

The Academy Award-winning actor just became a full-time faculty member at his alma mater, The University of Texas at Austin, where the 49-year-old will teach the Script to Screen course for the Moody College of Communication. As fans know, the Dallas Buyers Club star attended the university in 1989 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio-Television-Film in 1993.

The institution broke the news of the entertainer's designation via Twitter on Wednesday (August 28). “In recognition of his professional pedigree and personal investment in student success, Matthew McConaughey has been appointed a #TEXASMoody professor of practice. @McConaughey will continue to teach the #UTScriptoScreen class in @UTRTF,” the school announced with a photo of the performer posing with a group of students.

“It’s the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school,” he told the university in a statement. “Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them.”

He added: “Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art — no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus.”

McConaughey's latest role as educator comes after several years of serving as one of the school's visiting professor. Back in 2016, the Free State of Jones player assisted the film's director, Gary Ross, to help lecture 30 students in a course on filmmaking.
