Ibiza Driver Arrested After Testing Positive For Every Detectable Drug

man tests positive for all illegal drugs in Ibiza over New Year's holiday

New Year's Eve is a night when people like to cut loose and spend the night imbibing, but one man in Ibiza, Spain decided to allegedly kick off 2019 with a double hat trick of illegal substances.

According to a report from the Olive Press, Ibiza police pulled over a 31-year-old man in the early hours of New Year's Day after they spotted him driving erratically around the Balearic island. When officers conducted roadside tests to determine whether the suspect might be under the influence, they were surprised to find the man had been ringing in the new year with pretty much every single illegal substance their tests could detect.

According to the report, the man tested positive for cannabis, amphetamines, methamphetamines, cocaine and opioids.

Officers said they searched the man's vehicle which turned up a treasure trove of six purple pills, 20 pink pills, two bags of cocaine and a brown substance they haven't been able to identify. It's unclear whether the man was also under the influence of alcohol, but officers noted in their report that the 31-year-old displayed a "reckless attitude."

The motorist faces a fine of £905 (or $1,140), six points on his license and could land in prison for up to six months. Driving under the influence in Spain can carry a sentence of up to six months in prison, fines, 90 days of community service, or having a license revoked for up to four years.

Ibiza is well-known for being a party island and has become a popular destination for British tourists over the last few decades. According to a report from The Ibizan, between 80 percent and 90 percent of all roadside drug tests conducted by police in the city show positive results, with cocaine and cannabis being the most commonly detected substances.
