Company Tosses 50,000 Pounds Of Pork Due To Gross Actions By Employee

Smithfield Foods was forced to discard over 50,000 pounds of pork product after an employee urinated while working on the production line over the weekend. The male employee was captured by surveillance footage taking off his gloves, unzipping his pants and relieving himself. He then put his gloves back on and continued to work as if nothing had happened.

Smithfield Foods said they have suspended the unidentified employee and "immediately halted production, fully cleaned the processing line, and sanitized all equipment multiple times before resuming operations."

The company called it an "isolated incident" which does not "reflect the company’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of its products." Smithfield Foods did not say what specific products were disposed of, or how much money they lost as a result of their employee's actions. WAVY estimated that the cost of the discarded pork could be around $190,000.
