President Trump Signs Bill Ending Overnight Government Shutdown

President Trump signed a two-year spending deal ending the overnight government shutdown. Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul prompted the brief shutdown by delaying the Senate vote for hours in a protest over federal deficits.

The budget deal will lift spending caps and increase spending by nearly $300 billion over the next two years and suspend the debt ceiling for one year, according to The Hill.

The deal also includes a number of other priorities for both parties, including nearly $90 billion for disaster relief, $6 billion to address the opioid crisis, a four-year extension of the Children's Health Insurance Program and more than $7 billion for community health centers. After signing the bill President Trump took to Twitter to promote the two-year agreement.

First, the  President tweeted "Just signed Bill. Our Military will now be stronger than ever before. Also means JOBS, JOBS, JOBS! " Trump added, "Without more Republicans in Congress, we were forced to increase spending on things we do not like or want in order to finally... take care of our Military."  Adding, "Sadly, we needed some Dem votes for passage. Must elect more Republicans!"

In his second tweet, Trump said "Without more Republicans in Congress, we were forced to increase spending on things we do not like or want in order to finally, after many years of depletion, take care of our Military. Sadly, we needed some Dem votes for passage. Must elect more Republicans in 2018 Election!"

His third tweet of the morning explained that unless more Republicans are elected to Congress in 2018, "Costs on non-military lines will never come down." He also said that DACA was not included in the final deal and that Congress is set to start working on immigration reform.
