Portland Fire Historic Museum Opens

The new Portland Fire Historic Museum's grand opening is Saturday.

Unlike the Historic Belmont Firehouse Learning Center in SE Portland, the new museum in downtown Portland highlights the history of firefighting equipment and vehicles.

Louisa Jones with Portland Fire and Rescue, says the pieces date back as far as 150 years ago, painstakingly restored by a dedicated team of retired firefighters over decades.

Jones says it's very hard to find pieces that are 150 years old that are in such good condition and some of the historic pieces are the best examples on the west coast.

The museum opens Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm. It's located at 55 SW Ash Street in downtown Portland, right next to Saturday Market. Two highly knowledgeable retired firefighters will be on hand to answer questions. There will also be an AT&T It Can Wait booth to learn about the dangers of texting and driving.
