A day hike at Oswald West State Park in Tillamook County had a tragic end when one of the hikers fell down an 800 foot cliff.
51-year-old Joseph McDonald Lescene and 42-year-old Sarah Jones Lescene, both from British Columbia, were hiking on the trail above Devil's Cauldron, which is also known as Elk Flats.
McDonald Lescene lost his footing and fell down the cliff.
Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue recovered a backpack in the water below the cliff, which Joseph Lescene had been wearing at the time of the fall.
The Coast Guard used a helicopter and boats to search the water, but they were not able to recover McDonald Lescene's body.
