New Routes For Portland's Bridge Pedal

For the first time in Bridge Pedal history, cyclists can watch the sunrise from the top of the Marquam Bridge while having breakfast before heading out on the car-free ride on I-405 to the Fremont Bridge.

Rick Bauman, Bridge Pedal Event Director, says this is the only opportunity for the upper decks to go quiet on both the Marquam and the Fremont bridges to enjoy breathtaking views of downtown, the Willamette River and the Cascades.

Something else new this year is the Bridge Stride. Participants cross both the Marquam and Fremont bridges on a 7.5 mile walk.

Bauman says the city adopted some new policies regarding police support for events like these that required them to eliminate sections of the ride.  But Bauman says he actually thinks in some ways it's a better ride with less congestion.

The bridges that will crossed this year are the Sellwood, Ross Island, Marquam, Hawthorne, Morrison, Steel and the Fremont.

Kids ride for free in the Kids Pedal. It's limited to 1,000 kids age 12 and under. Portland's youngest cyclist go for a safe, 3 mile ride along the waterfront.
