Two Subway restaurants were robbed Wednesday morning at 1211 Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 1301 Northeast Broadway.
Officers responded to both locations and learned of a suspect vehicle fleeing the scene, described as a red Kia Sportage SUV. Officers located the vehicle fleeing the scene westbound on Broadway and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle sped away from police officers and a traffic pursuit was initiated, based on the information that the suspect had just committed two armed robberies.
The pursuit went through several Northeast Portland neighborhoods and officers lost sight of the vehicle in the area of Northeast 31st Avenue and Siskiyou Street. Multiple officers canvassed the area looking for the vehicle. Several community members were pointing out directions to officers after they saw the car speed by their homes.
A caller reported to 9-1-1 that the vehicle was parked in a driveway in the 2500 block of Northeast 34th Avenue and that the suspect got out of the car and walked into the neighborhood.
Officers, including a Beaverton Police K-9 Unit, responded to the address and began establishing a neighborhood perimeter to search for the suspect.
East Precinct officers located a person matching the suspect's description and took him into custody in the 3800 block of Northeast Thompson Street.
At this point, there are no suspects outstanding and officers are continuing to search the neighborhood for evidence related to the robberies.
Although the pursuit was at times high speed and the suspect drove the wrong way on North Interstate Avenue for a short time, there are no reported crashes or damage connected with the suspect's driving.
