New billboards went up this week, promoting the Portland Police Bureau. There are currently 3 up around town and they feature officers who grew up in Portland. The billboards show the officer in uniform, with a smaller picture of the officer as a child playing sports. The tagline reads "Your City. Your Police." Bureau spokesman Pete Simpson says the billboards provide the opportunity to show the community that officers are human beings. Simpson says it is important for people to know that officers have an "outside the uniform" life.
Currently there are three billboards but it will grow to nine at the following locations: SE 86th and Foster, 35th and Powell, Lombard and Fenwick, sandy and Pine, MLK and Ainsworth, 82nd and Milton, 82nd and Ash, W. Burnside and 16th and N. Denver Avenue, north of the Columbia Slough. Simpson says the remaining billboards will feature a variety of officers.
The billboards were donated by Clear Channel Outdoor.
