Oregon lawmakers are demanding answers from Cover Oregon about why the state is dropping the local website and what will be done to make sure the transition to the federal exchange will work.

Oregon Information Technology Director Alex Pettit said from a financial and capability standpoint it makes the most sense to use the national exchange.

Legislators asked what happens if the transition doesn't work in time for the fall enrollment. Cover Oregon Interim Director Clyde Hamstreet says the fallback is the current manual enrollment process.

They will continue to work with software maker oracle, because it owns the software currently in use and that's needed to make the transition to the federal exchange. What happens to Cover Oregon in 2015? A business plan is due on that later this month.
