Beach Smoking Ban Possible In Oregon

Beach Smoking Ban Possible In Oregon
Posted Friday, July 25th 2014 @ 9am

The state of Oregon is taking steps to ban smoking on all 362 miles of beaches along the Pacific coast.

The move by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department follows a ban on smoking at most other state-park property, which was enacted earlier this year.

A spokesperson says the move to include beaches is partly a response to concerns that the earlier ban would push more smokers onto the coastline.  The department also says a smoking ban would reduce litter.

The agency is taking public comment on the proposal through August.  You can comment via email at oprd.publiccomment@oregon.gov or at 1 of 4 public hearings. There will be meetings in Seaside, Newport, Coos Bay and Salem.
