The University of Oregon won the first game of the crucial 3-game series in Eugene 3-0 over Oregon State. Tommy Thorpe allowed only two hits in 8-plus innings and Jimmie Sherfy survived a shaky ninth inning to earn his school-record 20th save of the season.

Oregon State managed only two infield singles, and the Beavers left the bases loaded in the ninth while suffering the loss that dropped them back into a first-place tie in the Pac-12.  Both Oregon and Oregon State are now 20-5 in the conference.  The Ducks are 43-11 overall.  The Beavers are 41-9.

The second game of the 3-game series will be played Saturday at 2pm.  Radio coverage begins at 1:30pm on Fox Sports Radio 620 in Portland.

The Beavers will play the Ducks in a non-conference game Tuesday in Corvallis.
